web interface down

Hi.

I have a My Book World Edition II (blue rings), where i can access the network share folders, but i am not able to access the web interface for some reason.
yesterday it all worked, but i needed ssh access, so i did the Martin Hinner hack, which gave me ssh access, while still being able to access the web interface. for some reason i did not do the permanent ssh part of the guide. anyway, i closed the ssh session, and powered down the network drive, and this morning i am not able to access the web interface or ssh but i can access the network shares.

does anyone have any ideas what could cause this, and how to fix it?
Thanks ..

WD bricked after HDD failure.

One day WD was showing lights of failure (alternating middle and outer ring). I logged to Web interface to see disc failure in bay A. After shutdown restarting will take a lot of time. Sometimes WD will not start at all.
I got replacement disc (used from eBay) and installed in the bay A. After plugin power cord I hear disc working but no blue light. I put old (failed) disc in bay A the same effect.
I assume disc in bay B is still good and keep my data (which I want to preserve). I don't know how to check if it is electronic failure. What shall I do ?

anyone got the files for bluering drive rebuild ?

MBWE II blue rings restore - double drive

Hello,

I got this box from a friend, but only with one hdd, and that already formatted and full with other stuff.
I used the rescue-procedure from "hacks and tutorials" page, but I believe it is for the single drive as in web interface I see no info about Storage and beside "Safely Remove USB Drive", I have nothing on "Drive Management" page. Beside this I tried contactinc "teinturman", but no success, and also I believe it's tools are just for single drive, not double drive as mine.

Is there any tutorial with links to drive images that still works ?

Thanks in advanced.

How to avoid damaging your WD My Book World by removing power too soon

Issue:
It is extremely easy to bork a first-generation My Book World NAS device because it is difficult to know when the device has actually shut itself off.

IMHO, there is one very glaring defect in the design of the original (blue-rings) My Book World NAS device: There is no way to know if the device has well and truly shut itself off. I do not know if this issue affects other versions or not, but I would not be surprised if it does.

This is a problem because the blue "activity lights" are extinguished very early in the power-off sequence, while considerable disk activity remains to be done. Unfortunately, since there is no other way to know if the device has been completely powered down, it is very easy to assume that - since all the lights are off - that shutdown is complete.

This problem is magnified by the fact that we are constantly being reminded to disconnect power from devices that have been turned off to eliminate residual power waste.

If power is removed from the device prior to shutdown being complete, the result can be a badly borked device, or worse. Since there is no indication of activity except the blue rings, it is easy to conclude that the device is not active and then remove power too early.

Solution:
Add a "pilot light", (power light), connected to the +12 supply going to the hard drives.

What I did was to take a small red LED in series with a resistor of a few K-ohms, and connect it between the hard drive's +12 line and ground.

I drilled a small hole in the bottom center of the front panel, installed the LED and resistor, and hard-wired it to the +12 and ground terminals on the main PCB of the device.

What this does is indicate if power is being applied to the hard drives, (i.e. Are the drives still spinning?), or not. Once the LED goes off, you can be confident that it is safe to remove power without borking the box.

What say ye?

Jim (JR)

(Note: Since the box is currently on my rack, running, I am not able to provide pictures or a more detailed explanation.)

Hi, I cannot use this rescue procedure because of 512Kb per sector (I think). I stuck at /dev/sda4 which is not 2,9TB (at the end) but only aprox 800GB. How can I tweak partition table of structure for 3TB drive? I have 3TB WD Red edition. Should I create all of these partition by my own, or use GPT table insead of msdos? If there is no way how to use the rest of drive for only one partition. can I use 5. partition as logical (because od msdos partition table) and add it to the sda1/etc/fstab (will it work?).

Or… Is there any way how to install ubuntu/debian into this drive?

Can I use parameter bs=4092 instead od of bs=512.. will it core of mybook linux/unix boot?

Can someone please help? I can donate you :-) My original enclosure is WD5000G032-001

My Book World Edition II (Blue Rings) - controller card failure - Raid 0 recovery

I own a My Book World Edition II, of 2 TB capacity with details as under:
Specifications Order Number Capacity Interface
WD20000D033 WDG2NC20000 2 TB 10/100/1000 Ethernet
My controller card / casing failed. I have not been able to access the two hard disks in the casing. I think the setting was for tottal storage as the capacity was shown as approx 2 TB …may be Raid 0.
I need help to access the data and recover the files. I am a novice and have never used linux. I have managed to get the images of both the disks made on 2 USB drives of 1 TB each.
Please help

Will MBWE HDD work in My Book Live Duo?

My MBWE stopped working months ago. I was able to copy many of the files before it bit the dust to my (newer) My Book Live Duo. I suspected the disk drives on the MBWE were fine (not verified - just my hunch). I'd like to check the files on the MBWE drives one last time so I popped them into my My Book Live Duo and I get a solid yellow light which I beleive is an error condition. Any assistance and ideas would be appreciated on how I might get the MBWE drives mounted and visible to a Win 7/8 operating system. Both WD NAS units were configured as RAID 1. Thanks …

Blue Rings 1tb - controller dead, need recovery files

The logic card on my drive died a while back and I finally managed to source a replacement at a decent price (these are going for up to $300 on greedbay). Althpugh it is a WD10EAVS drive, it is a 00D7B1 firmware and the original is 00D7B0, so the logic card doesn`t work with the original

So I`m going to cut my losses (over 900gb of music accumulated over many years. Boohoo.) and set the drive up again from scratch. I see there`s a recovery guide on here to do this, but the download file links are dead. Can anyone upload these again or point me at a new location for them?

Hi,
I have a WD Blue Rings 2 and upgraded hdd from 500 gb to 1 tb one by one: replaced one old with a new one and waited to sync, and after replaced the second old with a new one and as well waited to sync.
I would have expected that the md4 raid1 partition would increase to use all available space, but did not.

Any way to resize it without unpluging hdd and connecting it to a ?
I must mention that I have ssh access to the device.

Hi folks, seems like front circuit board (under power button) is faulty so I'm hoping some kind person who has had a disk failure still has the casing intact. If anyone knows where to source one I would be so grateful if you would let me know.

Hello together and merry xmas…

I have a WD NAS System (my book 2 with blue rings), type WD10000D033

Since some days I can't use it as my Network Connection (Ethernet Adapter) is not working. The lights on the Ethernet modul are not flashing.

Please don't ask me why it is down, I don't know.

The System is switching on, fan is running and you can here the HDD running.

I have tow HDD drives inside, marked as A and B.

As I haven#t use the WD Box too often I actually can not remeber how the System Setup was: only one HDD, as tow seperate ones or as a RAID System…

Now my question: How can I get acces to my data on the drives???
nay idea?

Thanks, George

Hello i have a MBWE (blue rings) CASE.

Years ago suddenly lights stop flashing at all while hdd spins normally..
So then i decided to pull out the disk and use it as internal.. Disc was working well for long time until heads crash… (BLACK SERIES)

My question is: Maybe i have a defect motherboard or how to check this out?

I had try to install a new disk with guides here but nothings works.

When plug the adapter hdd spins, motherboard get some hot nut nothing else no lights (blue rings).

Also when i plug the network cable i can see that the led is on on the router bur when look at dhcp table i dont see any ip…

So how do i know if i have a defect mobo or i have done something wrong with the firmware installation?

Ethernet leds work but no blue lights and cannot access or ping

$

It seems that I cannot access the disk. No ping, not visible in my network. Is it a disk error or a hardware problem? Can anyone advice me what to do?
Update
I connected the disk to a laptop (WinVista). The data can be restored with Linux reader (DiskInternals)
I copied all my files to another disk.
When I try to open the 4 logical disks that are in the WD disk i manage to see the contents of the first three. On the 4rth there is an erro that sais:"Raid Array 2 (Raid 1 (Mirror))(LDM Device) is damaged. Recovery is possible
Can't open disk. Linux Swap"

Is it a hardware problem or is it the disk?

$

How can I be sure of what is the problem? My MyBook world single drive blue rings seems dead. Does not respond to ping. The disk seems OK. The tool I am using reports that there is a RAID damage and cannot access the 4rth partition (Linux Swap). I can access all the other.
So after all these, is the board damaged? Or Is it the disk that makes MyBook not to function?

Mac OS - Mybook world edition II - Model: WD10000d033

Hi folks,

I have an old Mybook world edition II NAS and im trying to get it working with my MAC book (exFAT), but i cant find it when i launch WD Access software on my MAC (i assume whatever Linux OS is running on drive is not compatible with current MAC OS).

The drive is visible in network places on MAC and XP, so working fine.

Ive also tried a windows XP VM, but when i launch WD access installer it says will only work with vista SP2. Grrrr :(

Ultimatley i want to reformat the drive completely and run EXfat file system, and hopefully be able to use the drive as a NAS and keep my MAC time machine backups on it. I suppose the first step here would be getting GUI / SSH access.

Any help much appreciated :)

MB WD II boot partition image

hello! so, time ago I ditched my MyBook World Edition II (WD20000D033) for a ubuntu server, and b'cos I wasn't going to use it, I took the two 1TB HDDs and give them away,

now, I'm trying to resurect that NAS, I'm planing to buy a single 1TB WD RED HDD, but before that, I need to know if the NAS is still working,

as far as power and board everthing seems ok,

ok, here's the problem, I understand that in the HDD are stored the firmware (or part of it), anyway, does anybody know how could i get a clean IMG/ISO image of those partitions? I mean, like a rapbian image that you flash to an SD card so you can just plug it into a raspberry pi, or how could I make thos partitions? plus how to flash a new firmware?

btw, puting the OS in the HDDs is one of the dumbest designs I've ever encontered ¬¬ thank you Western Digital….
